SBCRI has a structure in place that will allow anyone to use the testing facility with complete confidentiality to independently evaluate any type of innovative product or product system.
Let’s assume that you desire to understand the performance of a new shear wall. Our facility can take you through product development in a common sense yet sophisticated manner assessing in situ performance as follows:
| Step 1 – |
Your shear wall is tested vertically to traditional industry standards
monotonically (ASTM D564) or cyclically (ASTM D2126). |
| Step 2 – |
Your shear wall is then placed in a real 16-foot wide x 30-foot long structure that includes 4 walls and a roof. (See figures 1 and 2.) |
| Step 3 – |
Your shear wall is tested monotonically and/or cyclically or both, parallel with and perpendicular to the roof trusses. |
| Step 4 – |
Your shear wall’s real life performance is compared to the ASTM performance. Calibration is performed and design values are created that have relevance to real-world applications. |
Now, your future product development and comparative performance becomes far easier! Read more about SBCRI's testing capabilities.
